Calculating Machines

"When you can measure what you are speaking about, and express it in numbers, you know something about it." (Lord Kelvin)

This site is a personal contribution to preserving and documenting the machines which processed those numbers and advanced our knowledge in the years before computers.

The machines illustrated in these pages have all spent their working lives within Australia, and have all contributed to the development of industry, science, commerce, and education in this country. I hope that this web site will broaden the appreciation of this important but often neglected part of our engineering heritage.
